The Hong Kong Film Festival (Australia) is excited to announce its grand opening on July 12, 2024, at Palace Moore Park, Sydney. The festival aims to celebrate the rich and diverse cinematic culture of Hong Kong by showcasing a selection of feature films and short films by Hong Kong filmmakers. This inaugural festival will take place from July 12 to 28, spanning three cities: Sydney, Brisbane, and Melbourne.

香港電影節（澳洲）將於2024年7月12日在雪梨的Palace Moore Park開幕。本次電影節旨在通過展示香港電影製作人的多部長片和短片，慶祝香港豐富多彩的電影文化。這屆首屆電影節將於7月12日至28日舉行，覆蓋三個城市：雪梨、布里斯本和墨爾本。

故事大綱：

為找出班上企圖輕生的學生，中學老師鄭Sir(盧鎮業飾)不得不重新面對充滿暴力與遺憾的童年往事。

Synopsis:

High school teacher Cheng looks back to his repressed childhood memories, as he finds an anonymous suicide note in the classroom. He strives hard to prevent another tragedy from happening, meanwhile facing a series of family problems, his wife is divorcing him, and his father is dying.

"Keep Rolling" Synopsis：

On a buzzing red carpet, a 70-year-old short-haired woman strides confidently towards the stage. Behind the red carpet lies a muddy path leading to a movie studio in Hong Kong's New Territories. For her, glory and hardship are merely different paths to the world of cinema. Born in Northeastern China, raised in Macau, and educated in Hong Kong, Ann Hui stays true to her Chinese cultural heritage. Fascinated by Western literature, she furthered her studies in London and eventually discovered movies. Through cinema, she embraced Hong Kong's 'East-meets-West' culture, reconciled with her distant mother, and explored her cultural and social identity. Learning from veteran auteur King Hu, her directorial debut contributed to Hong Kong's New Wave, focusing on marginalized characters. Over 40 years, Ann Hui has faced numerous ups and downs, yet her dedication to cinema remains unwavering. Her works reflect her humanistic concerns and deep interest in Hong Kong's people, making her life rich and fulfilled through film.

《命案》故事大綱：

"Mad Fate" Synopsis：

On a rainy evening, a fortune telling master (LAM Ka Tung) tries to help a prostitute avert certain death, but fate has plans of its own. He arrives at the prostitute’s home just a few minutes too late, watching her take her last breath while Siu Tung (Lokman YEUNG) stares at her corpse with creepy fascination. When he foretells that Siu Tung will soon commit murder, the Master believes that he has the power to change the inevitable. On the contrary, the veteran detective (Berg NG) who once sent Siu Tung to jail for brutally killing a cat believes that Siu Tong is a born psychopath whose bloodthirst cannot be stopped. While Siu Tung becomes increasingly overwhelmed by his insatiable desire for murder, the Master puts his sanity on the line to change the course of fate. But is it possible to defeat the all-powerful force that paves life’s path?

Synopsis：

The Lyricist Wannabe tells the story of aspiring lyricist and high-school student Law Wing-sze (Chung Suet Ying), who works night and day to master the art of writing Cantopop. Determined to pursue her dreams, she tries everything to make a name for herself, yet in a world where dreams are often detached from reality, nothing seems to go her way. Despite a series of failures, she has no regrets about following her heart.

As Norris Wong’s second feature-length film following her debut My Prince Edward (2019), The Lyricist Wannabe is inspired by Wong’s life. A comedy about the pain of lost ideals, it provides a personal yet distinctly topical perspective on the theme of growing up. The lyrics of the film’s soundtrack were composed by Wong herself.
